Florida’s GOP Leaders Opposed Climate Aid. Now They’re Depending on It. - The New York Times:
Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott voted against last year’s bipartisan infrastructure law, which devotes some $50 billion to help states better prepare for events like Ian, because they said it was wasteful. And in August, they joined every fellow Republican in the Senate to oppose a new climate law that invests $369 billion in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the largest such effort in the country’s history.
At the same time, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has blocked the state’s pension fund from taking climate change into account when making investment decisions, saying that politics should be absent from financial calculations.

I hate that they’re untouchable and will never be held accountable for the destruction their power-grabbing, pandering decisions have caused. It makes my blood boil that we pay these people and they screw us over CONSTANTLY. It makes my blood boil that insane voters, largely due in part to the privatization of education, are too dumb to realize it and actually want these morons in charge of our lives. I just can’t stand it! I want to shake some of these idiots and just yell at them! These are no longer natural disasters-they’re unnatural and could’ve been possibly prevented by sound policy decisions years ago when Al Gore was sounding the alarm. Al freakin’ Gore! I just don’t understand it. Yeah I do, actually. Money and power, it fuels the GOP and they will stop at nothing to hoard as much of each as possible.
I truly believe in my heart of hearts that these Republicans know it’s too late. They know it’s too late to stop climate change, they know exactly what we’re facing, and instead of trying to prevent it, they’re looking out for themselves and their own-locking down as much power and wealth in this life as they can because they know the rest of us aren’t long for this world. They know the next generation probably isn’t even going to make it. They know god isn’t real. They know voter suppression is. They know guns kill people. They know reparations are owed. They know you don’t ship refugees to other states or keep kids in cages. They know what they’re doing by forcing births. They WELL know trickle down is a lie. And they all know deep down that they’re weak as fuck cowards.
I can’t wait til they go extinct and stop fleecing everyone and let us have some goddamn progress for once.
