Posted this on LinkedIn. Really hoping I don’t get fired for it.
A few years ago, my profile photo was a picture of me with Jane Elliott, a well-known, wonderful, brassy and outspoken anti-racist advocate. She was my hero then, and she still is. But these days I have an additional hero: Heather Cox-Richardson. Profoundly intelligent and brave, she speaks the truth, and she speaks it to power with such grace that I am always in awe when I read a piece of her writing. She places the current events of the day in context with historical realities in such a way that isn’t always pretty, but is definitely necessary. In this piece, she talks about heroism, its meaning, and its importance and in doing so, she is a hero herself.
